Short answer: It can take on part of the work, but results depend on your data. The Gemini business hub Google launched on October 20 connects Google Business Profile, Google Ads and seven third-party apps for brand visuals, financial charts and customer insights. The first job for Taiwanese SMBs is to write the prices and services on their profile and website as plain text AI can read.
On October 20, Google announced on its official blog a new small-business landing page in the Gemini app that puts brand building, financial analysis and customer insights in one place. It connects Google Business Profile, Google Ads and Workspace, plus seven third-party services: Adobe, Canva, Dropbox, Shopify, Wix, Zoho and Xero, rolling out "in the coming days" to all Gemini users worldwide. Google says tens of millions of small business owners already use Gemini.
Why now? Over the past 12 months, AI assistants have moved from answering questions to operating your accounts. Gemini opened connected apps such as Wix and OpenTable in August; in mid-October accounting platform Xero piped live ledger data into Gemini for its roughly five million customers. The business hub gathers those scattered connections into one entry point. Whoever owns the chat box an owner opens every morning can sell ads, design and bookkeeping through it.
Rivals are moving just as fast. In late September Meta extended its Muse agent to small businesses, connecting ad accounts and 15 business tools including QuickBooks and Stripe, though only in the US and Canada. On the same day as Google, Yelp launched AI lead replies for $30 a month. The category is consolidating from single AI features into an owner's operating console, and the battle is over who connects to more data.
The impact on Taiwanese SMBs is direct: how much AI helps depends on what it can read. Below are the feature details, what three types of readers should do now, a tool comparison, the risks the announcement skips, and steps you can take without a new subscription.
Feature details: one hub, three capabilities, ten connections
The core of the Gemini business hub is reading your data and turning it into business material.
- Brand visuals: Upload your website, brand kit, fonts or palette, and Gemini remembers the style, then uses the Nano Banana 2.1 image model to produce launch or campaign assets without re-uploading guidelines.
- Financial insights: Spreadsheets, receipts and purchase records become charts and interactive models.
- Customer and local insights: With Business Profile connected, owners can track local search and Maps performance; Google's example is a New Jersey burger shop using it to shape menu decisions.
Google has not announced separate pricing, and a French ceramicist in its examples says she saves two to three hours a day. Note that the Xero connection is not offered in the European Economic Area or the UK, so availability varies by service.
What three types of readers should do now: clean the data before the AI
An AI assistant only amplifies the quality of the data you already have, so all three readers start by cleaning up.
- Brand owners and SMB owners: This week, check your Business Profile hours, services, prices and photos. It is the shared data source for Gemini and Google Maps.
- Marketers and SEO practitioners: Turn website services, prices and FAQs into server-rendered plain text, and prepare a palette and tone-of-voice note so AI-generated assets stay consistent.
- Developers and agencies: Audit whether the local Taiwanese systems your clients use (POS, e-invoicing, LINE Official Account) have APIs. None of them is on Gemini's connection list today.
SaaS tool comparison: Google connects widest, Meta connects deepest
The differences come down to which data each connects to and where it is available.
| Tool | Main connections | Price | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini business hub | Business Profile, Google Ads, Workspace, Shopify, Wix, Xero and more | Not separately announced | Shops that win customers via Google Search and Maps |
| Meta Muse for business | Meta ad accounts, QuickBooks, Stripe, Shopify | Most everyday use free; heavier use by subscription | E-commerce relying on Facebook/Instagram ads (US and Canada for now) |
| Yelp Smart Lead Reply | Yelp quote requests, Jobber, Housecall Pro | $30 per month | US home services such as movers and plumbers |
| ChatGPT connectors | Cloud drives, email, calendar | Depends on plan | Office teams centered on documents and email |
What they won't tell you: accuracy and permissions are the bottleneck
The announcement skips two questions: who is responsible when the AI gets numbers wrong, and how much of your account it can change.
- No accuracy data: Google has published no accuracy figures for financial analysis. A survey cited by Entrepreneur Loop found 36% of owners name accuracy as the biggest barrier, and only 10% would let AI handle insurance.
- Approval before action: Meta says Muse takes no action without owner approval; Google's post describes no approval step. Read the permission screen before connecting an ad account.
- Stories predate features: Most of Google's customer stories were collected before the new features existed, and the time savings are self-reported.
The no-subscription SMB alternative
You can get most of the benefit without buying any new tool.
- Use the free Business Profile dashboard to post one update and current prices each week.
- Put revenue, ad spend and new customers in Google Sheets and build a monthly report in free Looker Studio.
- Add a plain-text "services and prices" page and FAQ to your website so Gemini, ChatGPT and search engines can all read it.
- Upload that data to the free Gemini tier and ask questions; connect accounts only after the answers check out.
FAQ
Does the Gemini business hub cost extra?
Google has not announced a separate charge; it ships with the Gemini app. Higher limits may depend on your Gemini plan, so check first.
Is the Gemini business hub available in Taiwan?
Google says it is rolling out to Gemini users worldwide. Individual connected apps have regional limits; Xero, for example, excludes the UK and EEA.
Is it safe to connect Gemini to Google Ads?
Start with read-only access. Google has not described an approval step before automated actions, so budget changes should stay with a person.
Can I rely on a Business Profile without a website?
You can start, but the data is thin. A website carries full prices and service details, the main thing AI cites about you.
Our view
Most coverage reads this as "AI does marketing for small owners." Our view: this is a data-plumbing story, and Taiwanese SMBs will benefit least in the near term. Gemini's value comes from the systems it can reach, yet the POS, e-invoicing, bookkeeping and LINE Official Account tools Taiwanese shops use most are not on the list. A US shop can understand its revenue with one sentence while a Taiwanese shop still downloads reports and re-uploads them by hand. We expect that within 12 months, whether a local SaaS exposes an API to AI assistants will decide whether it is kept or replaced.
For ScriptWalker (a Taiwan-based Laravel/Flutter custom development studio), the service opportunity is building AI-ready interfaces for local systems: turning POS and order data into clean APIs or MCP connectors, and rebuilding pricing pages as server-rendered structured content any AI assistant can read.
